👋 Looking for an internship has been a long process for many Euroculture students, so the first thing you need to know is that you’re not alone!
Below we have included some tips made by your fellow Euroculture students on how to make the process smoother, based on their experience finding an internship:
- LinkedIn (Indeed, Glasdoor) is great, but not only! Think outside the box and check out the websites of organizations that interest you. If there’s a position that interests you, prefer to apply directly on the website of the organisation, or send an email to the info or HR email with your cover letter and CV, depending on the content of the application or call.
- Open applications (basically contacting email addresses of the organisation) do work! Especially with smaller organizations, or organizations functioning at the local level (i.e., a municipal centre), expect that your application might be treated differently compared to the institutions in Brussels or in Strasbourg. Worth checking out!
- Of course, we couldn’t miss the golden websites for job hunting in the EU affairs area (especially if you’re interested in getting an internship in - well you guessed it - Brussels): Eurobrussels, Jobsin.Brussels and Euractiv.
- If you’re under visa requirements, make sure to check what are the legal provisions in the country you would like to have your internship in.
- As a non-EU citizen, you need to realise from the beginning that it will be quite a challenge to get an internship offer in the EU. That’s why you need to start doing your research and actively applying in advance. Another tip is to look into your other non-EU colleagues’ career steps, see where they have done their internships, and maybe try some of those organizations.
- Be prepared to explain and “sell” Euroculture to potential employers. Here is an article to assist you with that.
